About Dr Amber Denehey

Amber has completed a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and is registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Amber is also a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and has completed specialist training in couple therapy with Relationships Australia. Amber has conducted research in the area of Attachment Theory and relationship dynamics and is passionate about using the therapeutic relationship to help people resolve their difficulties.

Amber has had over 10 years of therapeutic experience working with clients, including crisis telephone and university counselling services, outpatient and inpatient treatment in the public sector, and for the past eight years, she has worked full time in private practice as a Clinical Psychologist treating a range of presenting issues.

Amber has extensive experience working with adults, adolescents, and couples, and offers therapy for a range of issues including depression, anxiety (phobias, panic, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and social anxiety), post-traumatic stress, complex trauma and personality disorders, adjustment to major life changes, grief, issues with self-esteem and interpersonal relationships, and eating disorders. Working from a strong background in Attachment Theory, Amber has a particular special interest in the treatment of reactions to trauma and assisting both couples and individuals who are encountering difficulties in their relationships.

Amber finds using a client-centred approach to therapy tends to be most beneficial, meaning she tailors her therapeutic approach and modality to each client’s specified goals and situation. Amber has trained in a range of therapeutic approaches including Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical-Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems, Integrative Couple Therapy, Schema Therapy, Emotion-Focussed Therapy (EFT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Mindfulness.

Amber provides appointment times from Monday to Friday, including some evening and early morning appointments. As a Clinical Psychologist, Amber can provide the higher Medicare rebates of $128.40 per session for up to 10 sessions per calendar year, provided clients bring a Mental Health Care Plan from their GP.
